A: Please visit our Tips and Terminology page here to compare and contrast these terms.
Q: Are you federally inspected?
A. Yes, Prestige Farms is inspected daily by the Federal Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), a division of the USDA. Our plant ID is P-7900.
Q: What constitutes fresh chicken?
A. The Federal Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) defines fresh as any product kept at or above 26° F. At Prestige Farms we strive to maintain our product between 32° and 38° from the time it enters our plant until the time it is delivered to your door. This leads to a fresh, never frozen product that naturally tastes better and is more tender than those stored below freezing.
Q: Isn’t all chicken the same?
A: The simple answer is no. The tenderness and taste of poultry products are dependent on many things. The age of the chicken at time of slaughter, the feed provided, and the time between slaughter and processing all play an important role in how the product tastes. At Prestige Farms we start with 5-6 week old All Natural chickens and allow them to rest 12 to 18 hours between slaughter and processing. Most large poultry producers process their chicken from slaughter to end product down one large assembly line. Bypassing the resting period makes the final product less tender and less flavorful. Q: Are your chickens organic?
A: No, we are not certified organic. We do, however, offer products from Springer Mountain Farms. Springer Mountain Farms is certified “Free Farmed” by the American Humane Association and with that comes regulations more stringent than just organic. For more information please visit their website at or call a Prestige Farms sales representative for pricing information.
